Van’s RS Taichi Cold Weather Gear Series

Van’s Cold Weather Gear Guide

Tis’ the season, in the Midwest anyway, where it is nearly too cold to ride, the trackdays have all passed and the rain has become sporadic like the potholes on our roads. As a result Van wound up with a case of cabin fever and we decided it was time for him to suite up and go for a motorcycle ride. We figure that by taking our gear research to the streets it will give us at Sportbiketrackgear.com and our customers a much better feel for the functionality and performance of the various gear items. Selecting the right gear for cold weather can be daunting as there are so many variables in the products you choose to purchase and we wanted to make it easier for our customers to make these tough decisions. we started with RS Taichi on a cold day in late November and below you will see the video reviews that Van put together on these items. Hands! My hands, man!!! That seems to be the hardest part to ensure I keep warm and functional with my winter gear. I have a pair of gloves that do the business at 40* or so but after long periods of riding in that temp, frozen! I’d really like to find a pair of gloves that aren’t so bulky in the palms which make it difficult to manipulate/feel the controls and still keep me warm. I’d rather not go the heated gear route to avoid hooking up additional wires to the battery and given my location I’d use it only 2-3 months out of the year.

I’ve been on long rides with my “winter” gloves and at some point I had to stop and get some coffee just to hold the cup and thaw my hands out! No bueno as it became harder to feel and control the bike! I currently don’t partake in long rides during the winter months but do commute to/from work. It’s about a 20-30 minute ride depending on traffic.

Maybe heated gloves will be the way to go!!!

We did review a different pair of glove by Taichi with each ride. If you head over to our Youtube Channel you can check out some of those reviews. I will admit the idea of heated gear in the winter does sound pretty good…

      Thanks for watching!
